Initialisms and Quotation Marks

Which of the follow is correct?

  • CAYA stands for “come as you are.”
  • “CAYA” stands for “come as you are.”

I am not referring to the Nirvana song, so I assume that capitalization is not necessary when spelling out what the initialism stands for.

There is no need to put quotation marks around a capitalized acronym. The capitalization already makes it stand out.
