Are common pet-names capitalized as per proper names i.e. when writing to a loved one, which of the two is the better option? -Hello darling- or -Hello Darling-
or fill in the name and email fields below:
Surely "Hello, Darling"?
Yes, a capital is correct. In the case of 'Hello Darling' 'Darling' is an appellation (ie proper noun). It would be the same with if you referred to someone in the third person, calling them darling: 'Well, if Darling thinks so, then...' It should only be lower case in 'You are such a darling.' That would be a common noun.
To My Immortal Beloved,
She kicked off her shoes. “I’m pretty spent. That was an incredible weekend, but I really must get ready for work. Will you come see me tonight, Precious?”

Same with mom and dad, etc., they're capitalized as "names", but not when describing family position.
With capital: "let me ask Dad",
Without capital: "let me ask my dad".
What about expletives?
"Hey, watch where you're going, Asshole!"
"Hey, watch where you're going, you asshole!"
There's a doozie.
