You CAN say 'dependence'.I'm dependent on drugs..My dependence on heroin..I don't see anything wrong with that.
You don't need to italicize the possessive; that's not part of the name. It would look wrong if you italicized the whole thing.That isn't really anything to do with correct English though, it's just a matter of typing protocol.
