Ok, skimmed through the comments but still stuck on my question. My father and I share the same birthday. Lucky us. So, what's the proper way to say "mine and my dad's birthday is today" which sounds more natural to me than "my dad's and my birthday is today". I see the argument in not wanting to start with yourself but it certainly rolls off the tongue better, in my opinion.
