Would you say big, large house? No. So why say exact same?

I don't like the phrase exact same. You wouldn't say big, large house would you?
I wonder if people are confusing similar and same?

If 'same' means identical then do we say ' exact identical'?
I don't think so.

Or if exact means precise do we say 'precise same'?
I don't think so.

This use of exact same seems to have its origins in America.
