The idea that terms like "actress" and "heroine" are somehow sexist borders on idiocy. If using terms like "chairperson" (a linguistic absurdity) would elevate underpaid immigrant women or third world women or working class women of this country I would use it. But it doesn't. Most p.c. language is little more than an ego trip, a facet of anally retentive nit-picking puritanism of the "holier than thou" variety. People who make a fuss over this really ought to get a life; there are real problems to be worrying about. (Incidentally, I did go to a restaurant in Melbourne, Australia, which had a sign, "The waitperson will attend to you shortly". These people, like VD, are everywhere.)
